LaMichael James ‘will be a great fit for the 49ers
Former Oregon Ducks running back LaMichael James was selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the 61st overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
James, the Ducks’ all-time leading rusher, will join a deep backfield for the 49ers that includes veterans Frank Gore and Brandon Jacobs. However, James’ ability to run outside, catch passes and potentially contribute on special teams could mean early playing time for him.
Here’s a snapshot of what fans were saying about the pick, and what they’re looking forward to seeing from LaMichael James in the NFL:
Congrats to LMJ. I love the 49er fit because of Harbaugh, and his speed and toughness complement their other backs (and maybe as a return guy as well?).
I think LaMichael will be a great fit for the 49ers. He gets to play behind a veteran running back in Frank Gore who he can learn from, and both backs have such contrasting styles (Gore is a big bruising back, James is quick and speedy) that they will provide balance for the team. And LaMichael gets to play for a great coach in Jim Harbaugh, who will find a way to get him involved if LaMichael works hard.
One of the great college RBs but I am afraid he will get squashed in the NFL. The quickness he has never seen the speed on defense in pro ball. I just hope he doesn’t get hurt real bad.
One thing about this situation for LMJ is that it could end up being very stable. Even if he doesn’t get a ton of touches the first couple of years it will be a great situation for him.
Frank Gore is of course their main guy but he has had injury problems and Brandon Jacobs is mediocre at best. It’s possible that James could actually play if he can show he can handle NFL speed, power and durability.
