ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A player with the Denver Broncos stopped by Albuquerque High School Monday to talk to students about how to prepare for their financial future.
Joel Dreessen is a tight-end with the Broncos. He is helping out with Visa’s statewide unveiling of the educational video game that is meant to help students tackle their financial futures through practical money skills for life.
Dreessen shared what he went through his rookie year playing for the New York Jets.
“It would be a full calendar year before I would earn another NFL paycheck. If I hadn’t been smart with my money, if I hadn’t saved my money, I don’t know if I would be in the NFL anymore because by saving my money, it allowed me to keep pursuing my dream,” Dreessen told students Monday.
New Mexico state auditor Hector Balderas and State Treasurer James Lewis were also hand Monday for the event.
